Stock and decluttering

Quantities keep you from running out. The declutter queue keeps track of what you have decided to get rid of. Both hang off an item you have already entered.

Quantities and low stock#

Every item carries a quantity. Fill in Low stock alert at as well and the item is flagged once the count drops to or below that number.

Flagged items surface in the bell in the mobile app and under Needs attention on the web dashboard, next to overdue loans and dates coming up.

Which things deserve an alert

Not many. The test is whether running out stops something. Printer paper stops a document. A particular screw stops a repair. Most things just mean a slightly annoying trip. Set the alert on the first kind and leave the rest approximate.

The declutter queue#

Separately, an item can be flagged for a disposal decision you are not making right now. Open Flag to declutter on the item and pick one: Recycle, Sell, Donate or Other. A note goes with it for the part you will not remember later ("ask Mom first").

Flagged items collect on a Declutter screen, in the app and on the web, grouped by kind and oldest-flagged first, notes included. Flagging happens in the app: the web screen shows the pile but does not add to it.

Why it is a queue and not a reminder

It makes no noise. No due date, no notification, nothing in the bell. It is a list you visit when you are in the mood to get rid of things.

Flag it when you notice. Act on the pile when you have time.

Clearing a flag#

Swipe a row in the queue to resolve it, or tap the selected chip again on the item itself. Either way the flag is simply gone, whether you sold the thing, donated it or changed your mind. Nothing records that it was ever flagged.

Using both together#

Quantities and the declutter queue tend to meet in the same cabinet. The moment you find a third pair of scissors is the moment to flag two of them: you have the count and the objects in front of you at once.
